Kirkness is a residential neighbourhood in the Clareview area of north east Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It is named for James Kirkness who came to the Edmonton area in 1866 as an employee of the Hudson's Bay Company. "A local park is named for James A. From Kirkness, there is easy access to the Manning Freeway to the west and Victoria Trail connects residents of Kirkness to the Yellowhead Freeway. Once the last section of the Anthony Henday Drive is completed in northeast Edmonton in a few years, Kirkness will benefit from even better connections to all areas of the city.

The homes in Kirkness had the bulk of construction happen during the 1980s, although house and condominium construction continues today north of Kirkness Park and Kirkness School. The breakdown is as follows (stats from the 2001 Federal Census):

• before 1970:  20 homes (2%)
• 1971 - 1980:  125 homes (12%)
• 1981 - 1985:  490 homes (46.9%)
• 1986 - 1990:  245 homes (23.4%)
• 1991 - 1995:  135 homes (12.9%)
• 1996 - 2001:  30 homes (2.9%)

Of the 1,247 residences in Kirkness at the time of the 2005 Municipal Census, single-detached houses made up 53% (666 houses) of the types of homes in Kirkness. Low-rise apartments made up another 30% (371 apartments), row houses 8% (104) and another 9% of duplex/triplex/fourplex (106). There is one school in the neighborhood of Kirkness. Kirkness Elementary School is a public school for grades K-6 and was opened in 1983. Like the neighborhood, it is named after the Scottish pioneer from the 1860s.

The community of Kirkness is serviced by the Hairsine Community League.
