The northeast Edmonton community of Bannerman is part of the greater Clareview area. The houses and townhouses in Bannerman surround the centrally-located Bannerman Park and is bordered on the east by the North Saskatchewan River. Down in the river valley, there are numerous paths, green spaces and dog off-leash area that connect with the rest of the river valley trail system. The neighborhood is named after “H. Transportation in and out of Bannerman is quick, with connections to the Yellowhead Freeway via Victoria Trail and to Manning Freeway along 137 Ave or 144 Ave, Bannerman’s south and north borders. In a few years, the Anthony Henday Drive’s northeast section will be completed and offer even quicker access to other areas of Edmonton. The Clareview LRT station is also located nearby to the west along 137 Ave.

House construction in Bannerman started primarily in the 1970s and was mostly finished by the end of the 1980s. According to the 2001 Federal Census, the breakdown of period of construction of homes in Bannerman is as follows:

• Before 1970: 50 homes (4.3%)
• 1971 – 1980: 900 homes (77.3%)
• 1981 – 1985: 185 homes (15.9%)
• 1986 – 1990: 20 homes (1.7%)
• 1991 – 1995: 10 homes (0.9)

Of the 1,149 homes in Bannerman at the time of the 2005 Municipal Census, the breakdown of types of homes in Bannerman is split mainly between houses (525 homes, 46%) and rowhouses and townhouses (410 homes, 36%). There is one school in the area. Bannerman Elementary School is a public-system offering classes from K-6. The school also runs the Nellie McClung Girls’ Junior High Program, offering girls in junior high the chance to study and explore in a single gender educational setting.

The residents of Bannerman may also join the Bannerman Community League, which runs activities and events throughout the year and maintains the rentable hall and ice rink located in Bannerman Park.
